How to Rank on Google in Sydney: A Local Business Playbook

By Ragu Karthigesan · 7 July 2026

Ranking on Google in a city of five million sounds daunting, but local search is a different game to national SEO — and it's very winnable. Here's the playbook we use for our own brands and our clients.

1. Own your Google Business Profile

The map pack gets the lion's share of local clicks. Complete every field, choose precise categories, add real photos monthly, post weekly, and answer every review. Most of your competitors do none of this.

2. Build suburb + service pages

Google matches searches like 'electrician Blacktown' to pages about exactly that. One well-written page per service per suburb — with genuinely local content, not swapped-out suburb names — is the highest-leverage on-site work a local business can do.

3. Earn reviews relentlessly

Review count, rating and recency all feed local rankings. Make asking effortless — an NFC tap card at the counter or an SMS follow-up after every job beats hoping customers find you on Google themselves.

4. Get technically clean and fast

Structured data (LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ schema), a submitted sitemap, and sub-two-second mobile loads tell Google your site deserves to rank. Slow, messy sites fight with a handicap.

Do these four consistently for three months and you will move. Want us to audit where you stand today? It's free — message us on WhatsApp.
